MEMORIAS DEL HIELO

Recomposing worlds in the fingertips. The fingers of the weaver who, based on the experience transmitted and accumulated over the centuries, recomposes the unprecedented weaving of natural fibers, the fingertips of the Yachak pointing to the summit of Chimborazo, almost naked of its mantle of ice and snow, the fingers of the indigenous women who care, cultivate, grow, shape. The scientist’s fingers recomposing images of a disappearing glacier, visual representation of the devastating impact of climate change. It is in the fingertips of the weaver that these worlds are recomposed, these ways of making the world, the ancestral cosmologies, science, the correspondence between diverse epistemologies.

TAITA CHIMBORAZO

TALLER MEMORIAS DEL HIELO – PALACIO REAL CHIMBORAZO

“Memorias del HIelo” is an invitation to explore these pluriversal contact zones and re-imagine our relationship with the world, with that weaving of world-creating practices that often escape our attention. Let us allow ourselves to be transported by the colors, by the infinity of knots that draw unprecedented geographies, that express respect and amazement towards Chimborazo, a mountain that is not only a mountain, but a “taita” (shaman) that watches from its summits. A father who, if he were to become a volcano, would express his anger towards humans, breaking that symbiotic bond with the thousand expressions of the living. Let us reflect then on the meaning of the crisis, the systemic crisis that has progressively distanced us from Mother Earth, from the very source of life.
